The board features RS232 for communication with another micro, which will be helpful. We plan to use the Atom for our vision processing and have it send commands to a microcontroller. We also received an evaluation Atom board from Chuck. Our current favorite is the Four Wheel Drive Expandable Flat Chassis (EFC) The only concern with this is that the company that makes it is unknown and does not have a phone number listed on the website. The new module is made by Parallax and features far better documentation than the EM-406A. I focused on the GPS components and worked with Beau to determine that a different module would be better than the one I found earlier. Now, the robot will track a brightly colored object using only vision and use GPS solely to return to its starting point. We therefore decided to scale back the project to include GPS only on the robot and use vision more extensively. Creating two systems (ball and robot) would be very difficult. Our major concern was the difficulty of the original project. We met as a team after class to act on the feedback given by course staff. The only concern is price ($60) because we will need one unit for the object to be retrieved and one for the DOG robot. It features a compact size and includes an antenna.
